Description
A creamy, layered dessert made with ripe bananas, vanilla wafers, and homemade custard. Perfect for beginners, this American classic is a sweet and comforting treat for family gatherings or snacks.
Ingredients
Vanilla wafers, 1 pack (use gluten-free if preferred)
2 medium ripe bananas, sliced
2 cups milk, cool but not cold
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
0.33 cups instant custard powder
Instructions
Measure and set up all ingredients and tools.
Prepare Custard Base: In a bowl, mix flour and sugar to create a smooth paste. Gradually add milk, stirring to avoid lumps.
Add Flavors and Heat: Stir in custard powder and vanilla extract. Transfer to a saucepan.
Cook the Custard: Heat on medium, stirring constantly until thickened enough to coat a spoon (about 2 minutes). Let cool slightly.
Layer the Pudding: In a 9×9-inch dish, place a layer of wafers, then custard, then bananas. Repeat layers, ending with custard on top.
Fold and Wait: Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours (ideal overnight) to firm up.
Notes
Chill for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results
Customize with toppings like whipped cream or chocolate drizzle
Use non-alcoholic vanilla extract if avoiding alcohol
