By balancing the tart brightness of freshly squeezed lemon juice with a sweet, homemade simple syrup and pureed fresh strawberries, this drink offers a superior depth of flavor compared to store-bought alternatives. Perfect for warm days, this classic beverage uses a concentrated syrup base to ensure a smooth, grit-free texture in every delicious, ruby-red glass.
Ingredients
2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
1 cup granulated sugar
5 cups water, divided
1 cup fresh lemon juice
Lemon slices for garnish
Instructions
Combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Stir continuously until sugar dissolves completely, then remove from heat to cool.
Blend strawberries in a blender until smooth, straining through a sieve if desired.
Whisk strawberry puree, lemon juice, and cooled simple syrup in a large pitcher.
Stir in the remaining 4 cups of cold water.
Serve over ice, garnished with lemon slices if desired.
Notes
Use room temperature lemons before juicing for maximum yield. You can substitute honey for granulated sugar for a more natural sweetness. Store leftover lemonade in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
